Have you got bags or even cupboards full of finished/un-finished projects which need completing or sewing up - but that's the bit you really can't face? You are not alone, which is why yarnsmith.co.uk can provide a "finishing service". We undertake to complete and professionally finish your garments to an agreed timetable.

The Way it Works:

Identify the service you require and contact us, preferably by phone, to confirm we are able to undertake the work and agree a timetable. Send your project to “Yarnsmith.co.uk” at the address given below. You should include full contact details, (telephone, e-mail and postal address); the project; any remaining yarn; pattern information( including size of garment); notions, buttons, fastening etc. and make a note of any special requirements. We will contact you to confirm receipt of your project and thereafter contact you at least once a week to confirm progress or discuss any issues that may arise. Upon completion of the project you will receive an e-mail invoice for the work (inc. return postage and packing,) via paypal and we will dispatch your project (including any pattern, spare yarn and remaining notions) upon receipt of payment. Payment can also be made by personal cheque if preferred.

We offer two levels of service:

Basic Making Up:

1. Sewing in loose ends, checking garment pieces in preparation for blocking/pressing; whichever is more appropriate to the project.
2. Press/block garment pieces to specified size as per pattern instruction or as specified by the client.
3. Sew up using appropriate stitch and yarn supplied by client.*
4. Sewing/adding any required notions as supplied by client ie. buttons, fastenings etc.
5. Package and return to client within agreed timetable (unless unforeseen difficulties occur)

Extended Service:

1. Complete any unfinished elements of knitting. Identify any inconsistencies between pattern and garment pieces which may contribute to difficulties with the completion. Discuss with client as necessary.
2. Sewing in loose ends, checking garment pieces in preparation for blocking/pressing; whichever is more appropriate to the project.
3. Press/block garment pieces to specified size as per pattern instruction or as specified by the client.
4. Sew up using appropriate stitch and yarn supplied by client*.
5. Sewing/adding any required notions as supplied by client ie. buttons, fastenings etc.
6. Package and return to client within agreed timetable (unless unforeseen difficulties occur)

Un-resolvable Projects:

In some extreme cases, usually where tension difficulties occur, it is not possible to complete the project without extensive re-working of the garment. Should this be the case, after discussion with the client, the service may be concluded at this stage and the project returned to the client. The cost of this will be a flat consultation fee of £10 plus return postage and packing. A paypal invoice will be issued and the project dispatched upon receipt of payment.

*Please note: If you are unable to supply matching yarn required for sewing up we will undertake to find as close as match as possible, but this is done at clients own risk.

Service Charges:

The current rate for both the basic and extended finishing service is £6.50 per hour. A full-hourly rate will be charged for partial hours of 30mins or more duration. “Yarnsmith” will keep a record of the hours and confirm with the client on a weekly basis the number of hours worked so far. Should the client or “Yarnsmith” wish to conclude the service for whatever reason before the project is complete, “Yarnsmith” will issue an invoice for the number of hours worked or a flat-rate fee of £10.00 for less than one hours work. Clients will also be charged for return postage and packing.
