Knit-Pro Comes to Yarnsmith |
Whilst the Brittany Straight Needles are an absolute joy to work with, I've never felt quite the same about circulars - and then I tried Knit-Pro and there really is no looking back. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing (fine grained coloured wood) but the sharp points and unique smooth joins to the flexible cables allow any yarn, from lace weight to chunky, to glide across their surface. We have decided to stock the sets of interchangeable point circulars, and whether you choose the starter set or treat your self to the de-luxe set, each comes with a selection of needle tips, cables and accessories. Needle tips are changed with the help of the "cable key" which allows you to tighten/loosen the joint between tip and cable and also means that changing tip sizes or length of cable mid-work is easy.
In addition to the circular needles we also have wooden crochet hooks, both straight and cabled for afghan/tunisian crochet, and stocks of the really simple, but pretty, shawl pins. To see the full range please click here. |

I have recently been working really hard on producing my own range of hand-dyed yarns for Yarnsmith and I am delighted to have now launched "Pure Alchemy" (a tongue in cheek reference to never being quite sure what we're going to get!). We currently offer two yarns; a lovely soft 100% merino (technically a 2 ply yarn but knits as a 4 ply) and a 100% mercerised 4 ply cotton - fantastic for the summer. Both yarns lend themselves to shawls, scarves and wraps and to this end I'm also working on a series of patterns for either 1 or 2 skein projects.(Thanks to those volunteers who are, this very minute, giving the first pattern a test-run!)
Each skein is hand-painted and we never dye more than three skeins in one colourway, providing a pretty exclusive product! I have taken Pure Alchemy to a number of venues and it has been greeted very favourably. With comments such as "all the colours are so lovely one could justify buying one of each and then knitting presents for friends!" I can see the range expanding. We are absolutely delighted to be stocking yarn from the Gedgrave Flock. Tracy Ranger and her husband manage a small flock of Wenslydales from their small holding east of Orford, on the picturesque Suffolk coast. We currently have skeins of lace and aran weight in natural cream and a fantasticchunky weight textured yarn, "Rasta", which if you know the Wenslydale breed, reflects their natural coat with its "dreadlock" texture, hand-spun into skeins of fun and funky yarn, in three natural colours, cream, black/brown and grey.

Louisa Harding - Little Cake |
Louisa Harding's stunning new selection of patterns featured in her book, "Little Cake", are truly orig inal. Featuring two new yarns, Thistle and Willow Tweed the patterns are ultra-feminine and take their inspiration from the Alice-in-Wonderland story and the countryside surrounding Louisa's home. 26 projects marry the idea of traditional with a twist, the simple but exquisitely embroidered beret "Rakes Moss".
Attention to detail and fit are a trade mark of Louisa's work and the ability to alter the feel of a garment by changing a border edging or substituting colours produces unique garments to reflect your personal style.
You can't write an article about "Little Cake" without mentioning the extraordinary photography which tells a story throughout, making this not just a pattern book but a treasure trove for any knitter. |
