The Mirasol Project

We are really excited by these new yarns from peru - Tik'a Cotton, and Hacho 100% wool, not only because of the vibrant colours and the amazing quality of the yarn but also because purchasing this yarn, and the associated pattern book, Mirasol Collection Book 2, helps the women of the Mirasol Project in Peru. for more information about the projects work, visit www.mirasolperu.com.

Twilleys 100% Organic Cotton DK

Twilleys 100% organic cotton dk is a recent release on the market. Each pack has a certificate to confirm it's organic status. The resulting yarn is therefore not only better for the environment, but also produces a superior, softer cotton for the knitter. The colours are beautifully muted for the summer and we have a super range of leaflets and pattern books.

Melford Green Alpaca DK

In the heart of the rolling Suffolk countryside, an area once reknowned for the quality of its wool, Melford Green have established one of the very finest herds of alpacas in the UK. Manos del Uruguay

New to yarnsmith is the fabulous silk blend from Manos del Uruguay (Hands of Uruguay!). Silk Blend is produced by a co-operative of over 800 women producing high quality yarns for customers throughout the world.

The lovely Hip Knits hand dyed aran silk yarns are back with a vengance with some amazing colours for 2008. The 100g skeins are enough to knit a scarf, small bag, hat and mittens. For an "average" adult jumper you only need 4-5 skeins.
If you want to shimmer like a butterfly wing - this is the one for you!

Also new to Yarnsmith is the Hip Knits lace merino and seacell blend The colours are just stunning (as you would expect from Kerrie and her team) and just one skein will make the most amazing shawl.

Artesano Inca Cloud Alpaca

Inca Cloud is a yarn made by Artesano, a family run business. They practise fair and ethical trade policies and buy only from co-operatives. The cost of the yarn goes directly to the people who make and spin it. Inca Cloud is now just £3.50 and we have added 5 new colours. You can use it with any pattern that calls for a 4mm needle or dk weight yarn. Lots of patterns are available at £2.10 each.
